EDITOR’S NOTE: This article was originally published in in 2012 following a public survey commissioned by Israel Today among a representative sampling of Israeli citizens. The results remain entirely relevant to the threats and dangers today, nearly 10 years later.
Long ago, the people of Israel were admonished not to put their trust in armies or foreign powers when facing threats to their nation: “Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, who rely on horses, who trust in the multitude of their chariots and in the great strength of their horsemen, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel” (Isaiah 31:1).
It seems that as the threats to modern Israel increase, the people are heeding that warning. Israel Today commissioned a poll from the survey company Dialog, which questioned 501 Israeli Jews aged 18-65. We found that a solid majority are looking to God to bring deliverance.
