MembersJews Saved From ‘Amalekite’ Clinton

Ultra-Orthodox Jewish mystics see spiritual and biblical significance in nearly every major event around the world, and the 2016 US presidential election was no exception.

According to Rabbi Dov Kook of Tiberias, Donald Trump’s victory had “saved the Jews from the ‘Amalekite’ Clinton.” Kook—the grandson of Abraham Isaac Kook, the first Chief Rabbi of British Mandatory Palestine—was referring to Israel’s ancient biblical enemy.

The Amalekites, descendants of Esau’s grandson Amalek, were the first to attack the Israelites following their exodus from Egypt (Exodus 17:8). Throughout the biblical period, the Amalekites were among Israel’s foremost foes.

For instance, the Book of Esther identified the Persian official Haman who plotted to exterminate the Jews as a descendant of Agag, the Amalekite king that Saul refused to kill in violation of God’s express command. From that time forward, the label “Amalekite” has been ascribed to all significant enemies of the Jewish people.
