Renowned US actor Jon Voight, father of Angelina Jolie, has shown himself to be an enthusiastic supporter of Israel and a staunch supporter of conservative politics in both the US and the Jewish state in recent years. In an extensive exclusive interview with Israel’s Ynet news portal, he speaks openly about his attitude toward the progressive movement in politics, which he sharply criticizes. He describes the representatives of this movement as “damaged people with distorted thinking” who do not tell the truth and interfere in the lives of others. Voight emphasizes that he refuses to submit to the demands of this movement and to be restricted in his way of life.
Voight’s worldview is deeply rooted in his conservative attitude, which is also reflected in his attitude toward Israel. A country he has visited several times in the past and whose existence and values he passionately defends. The actor has repeatedly publicly expressed criticism of the Democratic Party and its leadership in the US, particularly in relation to its policies toward Israel. He interprets current political events as the fulfillment of biblical prophecies, with which he is familiar due to his Catholic upbringing and childhood experiences in Yonkers, New York.
In the interview, he talks about his father, a golf instructor at a Jewish country club, who instilled in him a deep appreciation for the Jewish community and its positive impact on American society. These experiences shaped his view of the world and made him see antisemitism as absurd and unjust.
Referring to the political situation in Israel, Voight commends Israeli citizens for their perseverance and dedication despite all the dangers and political turmoil that plagues the country. He highlights the role of longtime Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whom he describes as the “greatest blessing” Israel has ever known. Voight believes that the existence and continued existence of Israel provides an anchor of sanity in a world he says is losing its bearings.
At the age of 84, Voight is still very active and has no plans to retire. He stresses the importance of staying active and continuing one’s work despite the physical decline. He still sees himself on a mission and feels he still has a lot to do before he retires.
