It is estimated that the farm will feed 500 families.
Until now, Leket, Israel’s largest food bank, has operated by “rescuing” surplus agricultural produce from other farms. Having its own farm will now enable Leket to provide that produce that was previously missing from its aid packages.
The money to purchase the new farm was provided by a pro-Israel Christian organization in Singapore. And most of the harvesting will be done by volunteers, many of them Israeli youth, but also many foreign lovers of Israel. The first abundant harvest of sweet potatoes was expected to be collected in October.
