They were invited by the Ministry of Strategic Affairs in cooperation with America’s Voices in Israel, which organizes weeklong tours for prominent personalities.
The group was hosted by Israeli singer Idan Raichel and Strategic Affairs Minister Gilad Erdan.
The Hispanic luminaries included Latin Grammy winner Luis Fonsi of Puerto Rico and his wife Águeda López, who is a singer, journalist and businesswoman; Mexican telenovela actresses Ana Brenda Contreras and Sherlyn González; and dancer Zuleyka Rivera, the Puerto Rican contestant in the Miss Universe contest in 2006.
Among the stops was the Rambam Medical Center in Haifa, where the delegation got a snapshot of Israeli treatment of Syrian refugees and Palestinians.
Contreras described the trip as a “life-changing” experience. “Coming to Israel and seeing and experiencing the different cultures and religions all living together in this small country has given me a completely different perspective,” she said. “The coexistence of Judaism, Christianity and Islam, as well as their cultures in places like Haifa and Jerusalem, has not only been a positive thing, but actually shocking because that’s not what I expected.”
