Combining its expertise in agriculture, medicine and technology, Israel is positioned to become the world’s largest provider in the relatively new field of medicinal marijuana. Currently, there are 120 government-approved studies on the effectiveness of medical-grade cannabis underway in Israel. Clinical trials are being used to test the capabilities of marijuana for treatment of diseases such as autism, epilepsy, psoriasis and tinnitus. Experts estimate that the sale of medical marijuana will exceed $50 billion a year by 2025. Yuval Landschaft, head of the Health Ministry’s medical cannabis unit, told Reuters, “In the United States they use recreational marijuana for medical use — that’s like making chicken soup when you have a cold. We’re the ones making the antibiotics.”
