In such moments, people ask themselves: Who will show us the way? Who will lead us out of the dead end? And what makes a person a leader capable of bringing about real change?
These questions have occupied me in recent years — naturally against the backdrop of political events in the world, and in view of Israel’s difficult security situation and internal political reality. This has led me to look again at two spiritual figures who paved the way for humanity in spirit: Moses and Jesus.
At first glance, these may seem like two worlds far apart. But on closer inspection, something very different is revealed: in both of them, there is a pattern of leadership that springs from the same source of faith and brings redemption in two different, yet complementary, ways.
The moment of danger
Both appear at a moment of danger. Moses falls under Pharaoh’s decree to kill every newborn Hebrew male. Jesus is born under Roman rule and also under the rule of Herod, who ruthlessly eliminated...
