In 2016, when we were looking for someone to look after our father round the clock, we had short-listed several candidates from the Far East, including Hindu, Buddhist and Christian applicants.

Many were wary of the difficulty of the task of caring for Ludwig Schneider. Even his body weight was cause for reservation. The first question most candidates asked was: “How heavy is your father?” We had nearly given up when Philippus, a Christian from India, answered the phone. He has since cared for our father with boundless dedication, including daily prayer time. Father is satisfied with Philippus, I know it because I know him, even though today he can no longer speak.

We have furnished Philippus a room, and he has become a part of the family. We all get on very well with him, especially our mother. He cooks for himself, and the menu always consists of rice, rice and...
