MembersPapa’s Philippus

In 2016, when we were looking for someone to look after our father round the clock, we had short-listed several candidates from the Far East, including Hindu, Buddhist and Christian applicants.

Many were wary of the difficulty of the task of caring for Ludwig Schneider. Even his body weight was cause for reservation. The first question most candidates asked was: “How heavy is your father?” We had nearly given up when Philippus, a Christian from India, answered the phone. He has since cared for our father with boundless dedication, including daily prayer time. Father is satisfied with Philippus, I know it because I know him, even though today he can no longer speak.

We have furnished Philippus a room, and he has become a part of the family. We all get on very well with him, especially our mother. He cooks for himself, and the menu always consists of rice, rice and more rice, served of course with spicy curry. We’ve gotten used to the smell, as well as to his custom of eating without cutlery.

Philippus is just 30-years-old. Four years ago, he left his wife Liji in south India to come work in Israel. That’s not easy for him, I know from many conversations. But he is happy....
