The salary gap between the sexes is particularly high in Israel, where a woman earns only 69 percent of what a man earns.

By comparison, the global average is only 19 percent. The average hourly wage for women in Israel is 53.2 shekels ($14.18), while men average 63.2 shekels ($16.85) per hour.

However, this salary discrepancy does not plague every industry. Female office clerks, architects and civil engineers earn even more than their male counterparts. It is in the academic field where the gender pay gap is at its widest. Another important area where women are in the background is hi-tech startups....
