The weekly portion Bo describes precisely such a moment: the transition between darkness and light, between fear and freedom, between the known and the courage to face the unknown. The Exodus from Egypt does not happen in a moment of calm. It does not occur after everything has fallen into place, after the fear has dissipated, or after the picture has become clear. The Exodus from Egypt takes place exactly at the moment when the tension reaches its peak, in the night between darkness and light.
