Theodore Roosevelt admonished leaders to “walk softly and carry a big stick.” After what he did in Iran and Venezuela, it would be wrong to claim President Donald Trump doesn’t carry a big stick or that he is afraid to use it. But he certainly does not walk softly. And his track record notwithstanding, repeatedly issuing the same threat and failing to follow through on it only further entrenches one’s foes.

In Davos on Wednesday, Trump issued yet another stark warning to Hamas, telling an audience at the World Economic Forum that the terror group will be “blown away very quickly” if it fails to disarm under his administration’s Gaza peace initiative.
