The 1996 general election was dominated by the catchphrase “Peres will divide Jerusalem.” The slogan is being revived in the 2019 election, but with a small change to apply it to the very man who used it to win that previous election: Benjamin Netanyahu.

Bennett and Shaked found their slogan back in February, when US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, hinted at parts of a new American peace proposal that, among other things, appears to give the Palestinians control over some outer neighborhoods in Jerusalem.
