Hatred and frustration envelop Israel these days. It’s gone so far that politicians are being cursed with the use of Pulsa Dinura – a Kabbalistic ritual in which divine retribution is called down upon someone. Nadav Argaman, head of the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet), warns that the atmosphere is reminiscent of the days leading up to Israel’s first major political murder.
Meanwhile, a flag march is scheduled for Thursday in Jerusalem. The festive procession is usually part of the Jerusalem Day proceedings, but had to be canceled when Hamas fired rockets at the city. Right-wing political parties and movements want to make sure the march still takes place to demonstrate who really controls the Holy City. But Israeli security officials fear this could spark fresh unrest and scuttle the establishment of the new government. Hamas leaders in the Gaza Strip have already called on the Arab population in Israel to make a pilgrimage to Jerusalem on Thursday to “defend the Al-Aqsa Mosque.”
