Turns out the direction and intensity of magnetic “North and South” that your “boy scout” compass detects, have had subtle and not-so-subtle variations over the centuries and decades. And now brand-new research is using these variations to create an archaeological “clock” and “test” the Biblical account!
Over the years Israeli archaeology has been a battlefield for proving and disproving the Bible. Albeit, archaeologists seek to remain as scientific and objective as possible, but preconceived assumptions come into play even if sub-consciously.
So it was with some surprise that we greeted a new study corroborating Biblical historical reporting – coming from Tel Aviv University, which has long been a stronghold of the “naysayers” – those believing the Bible to be a document full of exaggerations and inaccuracies.
The main researcher was Yoav Vaknin, who is doing his doctoral thesis at Tel Aviv U in the field of archaeo-magnetism. The findings were analyzed together with a broad team of experts, from both sides of the Biblical historicity argument. The results werepublished in the prestigious scientific journal PNAS (Proceedings of the National Academy of Science).
