We recently reported on the rescue of orphans from the Gaza Strip. Last month, in the midst of the war, Israel authorized the evacuation of 68 Palestinian orphans from Rafah in southern Gaza to Bethlehem, an operation overseen by the Israeli army. I am proud of our government, our soldiers and our people for being so compassionate to their enemies even in wartime. Israel did not have to allow the orphans to cross from Gaza to Bethlehem. Of course, this is always expected from Israel, but conversely, no one would have expected the Palestinians or Hamas to show so much mercy toward Jewish orphans. Then I received the newsletter from Samy Ajjour, the head of the SOS Children’s Village in Rafah. There was not a word about Israeli aid in it. Zero!
