Israel’s military and political leaders are at one another’s throats at a time when infighting is a luxury we can ill afford.

Israel is at war, and the leadership, on which the entire nation most relies, is in conflict. This crisis affects Israel’s war efforts on all fronts. It is unnecessary and a luxury we cannot afford during wartime. Moreover, our enemies perceive our leadership disputes as a sign of weakness, which is absolute madness. As they say in Asterix and Obelix, “These Romans are crazy,” we can say, “Those up there in Jerusalem are crazy.”

According to senior government sources, there is a feeling within the government that the army is meddling in political matters that are not within its purview. This is a dangerous security and socio-political crisis that must be resolved quickly to finally win the war. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dissolved the war cabinet after ministers Benny Gantz and his colleague Gadi Eisenkot left the coalition. It’s also time to change the decision-making system concerning the war in Gaza and southern Lebanon. Therefore, Netanyahu’s establishment of a small cabinet for sensitive political and security issues, called the “Mitbachon” war kitchen, was a correct step. Such a...
