Between us: For many governments and people, Donald Trump’s approach in realpolitik—as seen in Venezuela—may be hard to comprehend, and I understand that. Isn’t Trump also eyeing Greenland and Cuba, and isn’t his ultimate goal the overthrow of the mullah regime in Iran? This explains why the US President shared the following quote from Marc Thiessen, speechwriter for President George W. Bush and today a commentator at The Washington Post and Fox News: “I expect that President Trump will visit a free Iran, a free Havana (Cuba), and a free Caracas (Venezuela) before his term ends.”
Few can stomach that, I’m certain. But in the end one fundamental truth remains: Every person has the right to decide for themselves which side they stand on and what they consider right or wrong.
If, for example, Vladimir Putin did the same thing to a neighboring state—perhaps even a democracy—I would most likely be against it. This classification is my personal choice, even if it’s not free of contradictions...
