After the Iranian missile strike on the northern Israeli port city of Haifa on Sunday evening, emergency crews worked for long hours to recover four bodies from the rubble. The missile hit a residential area and caused heavy damage. Two victims were pulled from the rubble on Sunday night, and the other two were found on Monday morning.
Firefighters and rescue teams worked for hours at the scene together with Israel’s Home Front Command.
According to initial findings, Israeli air defenses attempted to intercept the missile but were unable to prevent the impact. The Israeli military is now examining the reasons for the failed interception.
There are indications that the missile’s warhead did not fully detonate. Several Israeli media outlets report that the explosive payload may have detonated only partially, or may even have remained intact. Security forces are currently reviewing those reports. If confirmed, that could explain why the destruction, despite the missile’s considerable explosive power, remained relatively limited.
New attacks on Monday morning
The attacks continued on Monday morning. First, northern Israel came under fire again, with sirens sounding in several communities. Shortly afterward, attacks followed against the center of the country, where, according to Israeli reports, cluster munitions were also used.
Magen David Adom treated a 34-year-old woman in Petah Tikva who was hit by shrapnel and evacuated her to hospital in serious condition. In Tel Aviv, a man in his thirties suffered light injuries from broken glass.
Later, sirens were also activated in the south of the country. No injuries were reported there.
