As the ceasefire between the United States and Iran takes effect, the smoke may have cleared — but the fog is only getting thicker. The agreement has not yet been fully disclosed, the competing narratives are already colliding, and in Israel a deep sense of disappointment remains. Here are nine points that sketch the picture of the ending — or perhaps only a pause.
1. Did Israel and the United States win the war? The gap between military success and strategic failure.
There is no doubt: the IDF and the United States hit Iran hard. Dozens of senior figures were eliminated, above all Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei; Iran’s missile capabilities, military production facilities, and possibly parts of its nuclear program were also struck.
But the real question is not what was destroyed — it is what changed. The three declared main goals — stopping the nuclear program, eliminating the missile threat, and creating conditions for regime change — were not fully achieved.
