Brussels has crossed a line. With its new EU sanctions against Jewish settlers in Judea and Samaria, Europe is not merely sending a political message to Israel. It is also revealing its deeper attitude toward Jewish life in the biblical heartland.

What is especially outrageous in Jerusalem is the moral equation of Jewish settlers with Hamas terrorists. For many Israelis, this is no longer a diplomatic misstep, but part of a gradual political shift in Europe against the Israeli presence beyond the Green Line, in Judea and Samaria.

There is anger in Jerusalem over the latest decision by EU foreign ministers in Brussels. At the same time, however, Israeli diplomats stress that they succeeded in stopping a far more sweeping French-Swedish initiative: higher punitive tariffs on products from the biblical heartland of Judea and Samaria.
