Where death is omnipresent and freedom seems attainable only through external intervention, hope flows in the most absurd situations toward the very direction that promises freedom: the bombardment of one’s own country at the expense of those currently in power. We were able to speak with a young Iranian living in Germany, who shared his perspective on the war with us.
Arash (name changed for his own safety) is from Tehran and now lives in Germany. The young man has left his family behind. In conversation with him, he tells us things we cannot initially comprehend: “When Israel and the Americans bomb us, we rejoice. When it is quiet, we are sad.”
As Israelis, we cannot understand such a thing. We love our country, we want to live, we do not want war.
