My initial reaction to a legal petition circulated on social media that called on Israel’s Supreme Court to nullify the new Nation-State Law was that it was a parody, a fake petition poking fun at self-hating Jews. As it turned out, the 81 people who signed the petition were dead serious, and submitted the document to the Supreme Court on May 5. Among them was Dana Olmert, daughter of former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.
The person behind the petition was Eitan Bronstein Aparicio, founder of Zochrot, an Israeli NGO that seeks to de-colonize and “de-Zionize” Israel by resettling the 1948 Arab refugees in villages their forefathers deserted during the War of Independence. As NGO Monitor revealed back in 2016, Zochrot has partnered with some of the most virulently anti-Israel organizations in pursuit of this goal.
The petition itself is a bizarre manifest that demonstrates how far self-hate can take those choosing this path.
