By contrast, his talks with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas seemed almost forced, as if Trump was granting an audience, but didn’t really want to be there.
And then, Trump’s son-in-law and top adviser, Jared Kushner, visited Ramallah to get the ball re-rolling on the peace process, and we got a very clear indication of where things stand between the Palestinians and America’s 45th president.
The mainstream international media tried to paint the Kushner-Abbas meeting as “productive,” but the Arab press didn’t shy away from revealing a deep rift between the two sides.
The London-based Arabic-language daily al-Hayat called the gathering “tense,” and reported that Abbas was outraged when Kushner entered the room and firmly conveyed Israel’s long-standing demands.
