In the 1980s I studied music in Jerusalem, specifically classical guitar. But nothing came of it, and to be honest that does not particularly bother me. My father was actually happy with the outcome. He regards playing music as just messing around, and had visions of my ending up as a busker on the streets. At any rate, I thank God for what I am, and likewise for what I am not.
My daily editorial work in the Israel Today office is exciting, varied and, above all, essential. Yet, though my work is really very satisfying, I also need to wind down every now and then. Twanging notes on my guitar helps me to forget all the politics just for a little while. When I have a new piece for the guitar I play it for my wife first. I know that she will always praise me. I don’t ask the children, as my classical tunes...
