For better or worse, time and again Jews are found at the forefront of ideas, art, science, finance, technology and, yes, unfortunately even crime. Regarding the latter, Bernie Madoff’s $57 billion fraud scheme made him by far the worst financial criminal ever. On arguably the opposite end of the scale, Sigmund Freud forever changed the way people feel about themselves. And on it goes.
The point here is not to brag, but to acknowledge this phenomenon and its peculiar setting against the backdrop of repeated attempts to portray Israel as some kind of pariah that others would do well to avoid.
While the Olympic Games recently grabbed most of our attention, gold medals and prestigious awards are given for excellence in many fields. Here is a small taste of Israeli achievements in 2016 alone:
