Popular ice cream brand Ben & Jerry’s wades into Israel’s political stalemate

What, elections again? Some are annoyed, others have been left completely cold – in the truest sense of the word. The ice cream brand Ben & Jerry’s, which is quite popular in Israel, has taken the current political turmoil as an opportunity to launch a new flavor. “Third Time Ice Cream” plays on the common Israeli phrase “third time, ice cream,” which is said when running into a friend for the third time, an occasion that demands treating one another to ice cream.

The only problem? Ben & Jerry’s can’t quite decide on the flavor profile of the new offering. Sounds like Israel’s coalition negotiations. So, the company is turning to its customers to provide suggestions.

חשבנו שלכבוד הבחירות נוציא טעם חדש שיקרא “פעם שלישית גלידה”. אבל אין לנו מושג מה לשים בו… יש לכם הצעות?

On its Instagram account, the company wrote: “We thought that in honor of the elections, we would create a new flavor called ‘Third Time Ice Cream,’ but we can’t decide what to put in it. Any ideas?”

Ben & Jerry’s was founded in 1978 by Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield in Vermont, USA. The American parent company is known for occasionally adopting political issues. For example, last year a flavor was created for Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders. It’s little surprise that the Israeli branch of the company is also now wading into local politics.
