In April of this year, Iran tried to disrupt the Israeli water infrastructure with a cyber attack. The attack failed, however, causing almost no disruption in water supply and sewage treatment, and a month passed by before the Israeli response came.

The Washington Post obtained information that pointed to Israeli involvement in a massive cyberattack on one of Iran’s most important ports, the Shahid Rajaee shipping terminal in Bandar Abbas close to the strategic narrow waterway Hormuz.

The Israel cyberattack knocked down crucial computers that regulate the flow of ships, trucks and goods in the port and caused mayhem that lasted for days. An American official even said the whole country was “in disarray.”

Satellite photographs showed scores of loaded container ships waiting in the waters in front of the Shahid Rajee terminal and long traffic jams leading to the port. The situation only improved after the Iranians switched to manual handling of the container unloading.
