In the Sudanese media, peace with the Jewish state was received in very different ways. It is not easy to overcome old biases. Some don’t even try and see the cooperation with Israel as yet another Jewish conspiracy. Writing for the Sudanese news website Sudanile, Mahjoub Tawer asks:

“What is Israel’s interest in Sudan since it has already established relationships with many African and other countries? Why bother to establish relations with Sudan? Isn’t it enough that Israel has ties to all these other countries? Or is there a secret agenda known only to the sages of the Children of Israel?”

What interest could Israel have in peace with another country? The author asks rhetorically, and his answer is just as strange:

“The reason for this is that from the Sudan, it can control the world and achieve its goal of establishing Greater Israel. Israel is trying to establish Greater Israel from the Nile to the Euphrates.”

This version of “Greater Israel” apparently includes Sudan. Why not? The more the better. The article ends with a warning to oppose the Jewish takeover:

“Those who oppose normalization know very well that the Jew does not give you bread for free. For every dollar he gives, the Jew gets a thousand dollars back. So we warn you that we must not be a bridge that helps Israel reach its destination.”

It seems we still have a long way to go before true peace is possible.
