The Israeli media along with Minister of Intelligence Eli Cohen, who reported the news on his Twitter account, have made known the minister’s secret and previously unannounced recent trip to Sudan. The visit was made in such secrecy that details of it were only revealed after the fact.
The Israeli minister’s personal security was the issue since large portions of the Sudanese people still oppose normalization with Israel. The presence of an Israeli delegation in hotels in Sudan would have posed a significant threat to the personal security of the delegation members, so much so that the delegation did not stay in Sudan. After all, this is not a country where the identity of the members of the delegation could be hidden. The white faces of the delegation’s members could not be hidden in the North African country.
Diplomatic relations between Israel and Sudan resumed in October of last year, following the efforts of US President Donald Trump.
