According to a study by the Israel Democracy Institute, 40 to 50 percent of the population can no longer understand certain court decisions. That is dangerous for a society and undermines the socio-political stability in the state. The legal system is a necessary principle in our social structure today.
This development is not new; difficulties in the legal system are already highlighted and debated in the Bible. Scripture talks about legal processes in which personal and tribal values collide with the law.
Shortly after the children of Israel escaped slavery in Egypt, the Bible describes the first social conflicts between the tribes. Moses' father-in-law Jethro sees that the task cannot be mastered by Moses alone. Everyone turns to Moses personally and he has to decide which of the parties to the dispute is right.
