While they will undoubtedly miss their old friends, the more than 1,500 new immigrant school children will make plenty of new friends among their Israeli classmates.

These are the children of families brought to Israel from 42 different countries over the past year with the help of the Jewish Agency.

Most of the children come from Russia (around 450), followed by the United States (340), France (280) and Ukraine (120). The rest hail from the Czech Republic, Greece, Croatia, Colombia, Ecuador, Finland, India, Malta, Kyrgyzstan, China, Singapore and even Vietnam.

Many of the families are still living in immigration centers operated by the Jewish Agency, which has special programs to integrate the children in local schools.
