Early Monday morning, Israel was once again attacked from several directions. First, the Houthis in Yemen fired a rocket at Israel. According to the IDF, the rocket was intercepted by Israeli air defense systems.

Shortly afterward, Iran again fired rockets at Israel. Warning sirens sounded in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, as well as other regions of the country. Israeli air defense systems were once again in operation to intercept the projectiles. There were initially no reports of major damage or casualties.

The attacks followed Iran’s rocket offensive on Sunday evening. According to Israel’s ambassador to the United States, Yechiel Leiter, Iran had fired eleven ballistic missiles at Israel. Most of the projectiles were intercepted or fell in open areas.

“Each of these missiles can destroy an entire neighborhood and kill hundreds of people,” Leiter wrote on X. “No self-respecting country would tolerate such an attack — and neither will Israel.”

In response to the Iranian attacks, the Israeli Air Force struck military targets in western and central Iran early Monday. According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the strikes targeted military facilities and missile infrastructure of the Iranian regime.

The Chief of the IDF General Staff, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, directed the operation together with senior military commanders from the Israeli Air Force command bunker. The strikes were carried out by the air force under the leadership of military intelligence.

“The IDF is on alert and prepared to continue operating in all arenas against those who threaten the State of Israel,” the military said. “The IDF is at full readiness in both offensive and defensive capacities.”

According to Leiter, the strikes targeted surface-to-surface missile launchers as well as other military infrastructure of the Iranian regime.

Ambassador Leiter also issued a warning to Hezbollah in Lebanon. “If Hezbollah fires at Israel, its command centers in Dahiyeh will be hit hard,” he wrote on X. “Everyone has had enough of this insane Iranian regime.”

The latest escalation occurred despite American efforts to prevent a further expansion of the conflict. According to media reports, U.S. President Donald Trump had urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to refrain from a military response. Nevertheless, following the Iranian rocket attacks, Israel decided to carry out a counterstrike.

At the same time, a U.S. defense official emphasized to American media that the United States was not involved in the Israeli strikes on targets in Iran.

In Israel, schools nationwide remained closed on Monday. Public transportation operated only on a limited basis. Ben Gurion International Airport remained open, while security forces across the country stayed on heightened alert.

What happens next remains unclear. Following the Iranian rocket attacks on Sunday evening and Monday morning, as well as the Israeli airstrikes on targets in Iran, the situation in the region remains tense. The coming days will show whether the escalation can be contained or whether further attacks will follow.
