There are moments in history when politics, war, and faith overlap so dangerously that even sober strategists speak of a possible global conflagration.

Israel’s war with Iran may be, for military planners, a geopolitical struggle over deterrence, influence, and nuclear weapons. But for millions of believers, it appears to be part of a much larger drama—a possible chapter in a story already foreshadowed thousands of years ago in the sacred texts. As missiles strike, drones launch, and fleets are placed on alert, terms from ancient writings suddenly return to the headlines: Gog and Magog, Armageddon, Amalek, the Mahdi. Prophets such as Ezekiel and Isaiah are quoted, because their words are seen as having foreseen today’s reality. At the same time, politicians and analysts warn that a direct clash between the great powers could turn this regional war into a third world war. For some, it is a strategic preemptive strike; for others, a sign of the end times. And for some, perhaps, it is the moment when history, religion, and world politics condense into a single dangerous event.
