In the war between Israel and Hamas, Al Jazeera has stuck to the narrative that Israel is a brutal aggressor. The network offers Hamas a platform. The reporting is manipulated in line with the Hamas-Muslim Brotherhood narrative.

On May 5, 2024, the Israeli government accused Al Jazeera of endangering national security and closed its operations in Israel for 45 days, labeling it as the “mouthpiece of Hamas.”

Similar accusations have been made against the broadcaster in several Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the UAE, Jordan, Egypt, and Morocco.

US State Department spokesperson Mathew Miller stated on May 7, 2024, “We believe Al Jazeera should operate in Israel.” However, it’s worth noting that the US shut down Al Jazeera America in 2016.

 

The network

Al Jazeera enjoys a large international audience. Its reporting is emotionally charged and often includes graphic images, such as injured civilians and fatalities. Since its founding in 1996, the network has been heavily subsidized by Qatar, receiving billions of dollars without the need to turn a profit.
