The mainstream media has long been criticized for publishing only what Arab leaders say in English, while all but ignoring their remarks in Arabic, which are often of a much different nature.

But in the age of online media, this unfortunate practice has been at least partially countered by numerous organizations that immediately translate and publish everything Arab leaders say, even in Arabic, to a misinformed global audience.

Some in the Arab world are starting to catch on, and are urging those who have less-than-flattering things to say about the Jews or Israel to watch their tongues.

“MEMRI is one of the websites that monitors everything,” warned Palestinian author Mushir Al-Farra, who noted in a December 23 interview on Baladna TV that recent street interviews carried out by a Palestinian media activist had asked passersby “What would you do if you saw a Jew walking down the street?” Needless to say, many of the Palestinians responded by cursing the Jews and promising violence against them.
