Capsule Hotel Opens in Jerusalem

Made popular in China and Japan, Israel’s overcrowded cities are now opening their own “pod” hotels

Popular for years in overcrowded Asian countries like China and Japan, capsule, or pod, hotels are now making their way to Israel.

The first such accommodation, appropriately named CapsuleInn, opened recently in downtown Jerusalem with 26 capsules neatly arranged in one large open space.

Each capsule has a comfortable bed, cable television, air conditioning, a safe, telephone and WiFi connectivity.

In the common area, guests share a large bathroom, locker room, and lounge with coffee stand. It’s the perfect setup for all those backpackers who make their way through Israel each year, especially given the price of just 99 shekels per night.

Several more pod hotels are scheduled to open in Tel Aviv later this year.
