But here and there, voices of reason prevail. One example is the Israeli organization “Kids Creating Peace” (www.kcpeace.org) which brings Jewish and Arab children together to create art against hate. At the helm of the organization is Shani Peretz, the daughter of Knesset (parliament) member Amir Peretz of the dovish Labor Party.
Some 250 kids aged 14 to 18, Israelis and Palestinians from all over the country, work together for tolerance and mutual understanding and to combat the hate-filled dialogue on Facebook and Twitter. At their first meeting in Jerusalem this spring, the children discussed ways to break down barriers.
“Before I joined the movement I always believed that it doesn’t make sense to talk to Arabs because they hate us anyway,” Yarden Osana, a 17-year-old Israeli girl, told the weekly Yerushalayim. “But I joined anyway. I got to know Palestinian kids with whom I laughed and cried....
