German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is expected to pay an inaugural visit to Israel this evening.

A visit to the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial is planned for tomorrow. After that, talks with Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Foreign Minister Yair Lapid are on the agenda.

The visit to Israel, which had been planned before the start of the war in Ukraine, was shortened to one day due to the current situation. A visit to the Palestinian Authority and Jordan was also originally planned.

A German government spokesman said that whether or not the visit takes place at all would depend on developments in Ukraine throughout the day.
