Survey shows 53 percent of Israeli social workers don’t know how to react to cases of child abuse. Less than half had received training on the subject.

A recent report revealed a disturbing trend: between October and December 2023, calls to the Ministry of Welfare and Social Services’ support hotline increased by 28% compared to the same period in the previous year. Alarmingly, there was also a 37% rise in calls regarding violence against children within families. Around the same time, Israel’s National Council for the Child reported that “a 2020 survey of 655 professionals working with children in education, medical, justice, and social work fields revealed that 53% did not know how to respond to child abuse. Additionally, less than half had received any training on the subject.”

While some may attribute this spike in reports to Israel’s ongoing war against Hamas, Dr. David Weiss, a former advisor to the Chairman of the Social Welfare Lobby in the Knesset and current head of the Parental Alienation Lobby NGO, believes that Israel’s Welfare Services play a critical role in fostering parental alienation.
