The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) released intelligence on Wednesday revealing Hamas’s ongoing terrorist activities within civilian infrastructure across the Gaza Strip, including hospitals, schools, and public facilities. The findings underscore Hamas’s “cynical exploitation” of non-combatants as human shields, endangering civilian lives to shield its operations, according to an IDF statement.
The intelligence details Hamas’s use of sites like the Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, where a precision IDF strike targeted a command-and-control center used by senior Hamas officials to plan attacks on Israeli civilians and military personnel. The strike, executed overnight Monday, hit a hub linked to the successor of Ismail Barhoum, former head of Hamas’s Gaza government. Similarly, a Tuesday airstrike targeted a subterranean Hamas command center beneath the European Hospital in Khan Yunis, killing Mohammed Sinwar, a senior commander and brother of the late Yahya Sinwar. The operation used bunker-busting munitions to neutralize dozens of high-ranking operatives coordinating attacks.
The IDF also issued a warning to residents of Gaza City’s southern Rimal neighborhood, identified as a terrorist stronghold embedded within civilian areas, urging evacuation to avoid harm. The military emphasized its commitment to dismantling Hamas infrastructure while navigating the challenges of urban warfare to minimize civilian casualties.
These revelations align with prior IDF operations, such as raids on Kamal Adwan and Al Shifa hospitals, where weapons caches and tunnel networks were uncovered. Hamas’s tactics, the IDF says, violate international law by exploiting protected civilian sites. As operations intensify, the IDF vows to expand efforts to protect Israeli citizens from Hamas’s threats.
