In a major step toward restoring full combat readiness, the IDF this week held its first operational learning conference in three years, bringing together Israel’s top commanders for a focused review of recent field exercises and war readiness.
Chief of the Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir led the high-level forum, which included division commanders, corps heads, and regional operational leadership. The conference marked the IDF’s official return to a regular cycle of exercises and training—an essential move after the disruptions of sustained wartime activity.
Opening with a strategic presentation by Brig. Gen. Itamar Lasri, Head of the Doctrine and Training Division, the forum examined the IDF’s revised training schedule and long-term guidance for operational units. Commanders presented lessons drawn from recent exercises and outlined necessary improvements in force development, mobility, and command-and-control.
Zamir emphasized the centrality of learning from the past year’s events—particularly the October 7th attacks—and warned of potential future threats.
“We are in a period of improving readiness for war. We must strengthen defense stability and prepare for a sequence of offensive operations across all theaters,” said Zamir. “One of the key reference scenarios remains the possibility of a large-scale raid or surprise war.”
He described the conference as a return to core military discipline: training, mutual learning, and integrative review across all commands. The Chief of Staff also announced that the upcoming multi-year IDF plan will place new emphasis on division-level capabilities—enhancing control, effectiveness, and rapid maneuverability.
Calling for vigilance and professionalism, Zamir closed with a sharp directive: “Action without learning is meaningless. Lesson-drawing is the responsibility of all of us as commanders. We must lead the IDF toward decisive victory.”
The conference represents a shift in posture: from reactive survival to preemptive strength—built on the hard-earned lessons of war, and the deep resolve to never be caught unprepared again.
