The Pegasus spyware program was developed in Herzliya, Israel by the hi-tech firm NSO Group, which has 750 employees. This company and the child of the sea god Poseidon, along with the gorgon Medusa, have made headlines not only in Israel, but worldwide in the last few months. Pegasus was so important to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman that he personally called Israel’s former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to reactivate his government’s access to the Israeli spyware.
The New York Times reported that Israel allowed the Gulf States to use Pegasus even before the Abraham Accords were signed. When the Israeli license for Saudi Arabia expired, the de facto Saudi ruler urged Netanyahu to extend Riyadh’s access. In exchange, the Saudi’s allowed Israeli planes to cross their airspace en route to the East.
Mexico also has a Pegasus license and has conspicuously not voted against Israel in the UN of late. In addition, Pegasus has also helped Panama’s president in his secret love affair. But even within Israel, the spyware...
