(JNS) Israel’s Foreign Ministry denounced United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on Monday over his X post calling Israel’s current aid distribution model in Gaza “unacceptable” while failing to mention the Hamas terrorist group.
On Sunday, the Israel Defense Forces rejected accusations that its troops had fired at civilians in Khan Yunis, and released drone footage showing masked gunmen firing at civilians in Khan Yunis during what the military said was the time of the incident.
In his June 2 post, Guterres said he was “appalled” by reports of Gazans killed on Sunday, and called for “an immediate and independent investigation.” Israel, he wrote, “has clear obligations under international humanitarian law to agree to and facilitate humanitarian aid.”
Guterres took aim at Israel’s current aid distribution model, which bypasses the United Nations.
“The unimpeded entry of assistance at scale to meet the enormous needs in Gaza must be restored immediately. The UN must be allowed to work in safety and security under conditions of full respect of humanitarian principles,” he wrote.
It was “unacceptable that Palestinians are risking their lives for food,” he added.
What a disgrace.
Even if you look very hard, there’s one word you won’t find in the Secretary-General’s statement: Hamas.
Not a word about the fact that Hamas is the one shooting civilians and trying to prevent them from collecting aid packages.

Replied Israeli Foreign Ministry Spokesman Oren Marmorstein on Monday: “The real investigation that needs to be opened is why the UN continues to resist any attempt to provide aid directly to the people of Gaza.”
(On April 8, Guterres said the United Nations would refuse to participate in delivering aid under the IDF’s new parameters as it would “callously” limit distribution.)
“What a disgrace. Even if you look very hard, there’s one word you won’t find in the Secretary-General’s statement: Hamas,” wrote Marmorstein.
“Not a word about the fact that Hamas is the one shooting civilians and trying to prevent them from collecting aid packages,” he added. “Does the UN really care about providing aid to the people in Gaza, or is it more focused on feeding Hamas and its war machine?”
From the outset of the Gaza war, Guterres has consistently blamed Israel while ignoring or excusing Hamas atrocities, beginning with a statement some three weeks after Hamas’s Oct. 7, 2023, massacre, saying the terror invasion “did not happen in a vacuum.”
The US-operated Global Humanitarian Foundation, which is not connected to the United Nations, began operations in Gaza on May 27. Its aid facilities are secured by U.S. military contractors and remotely monitored by the Israel Defense Forces. International humanitarian NGOs reportedly manage the delivery of food and other supplies.
The GHF had distributed 4,721,062 meals to Gazans in the six days since it started its operations in the Palestinian enclave, the American company said on Sunday.
The private contractor noted that it seeks to further scale its operations throughout the Strip, with plans to build additional distribution sites in the north.
The foundation stated that it is “actively testing and adapting its distribution model to safely deliver the maximum amount of aid to the greatest number of people.”
GHF maintained that the aid was distributed without security issues throughout the week, despite reports in the media suggesting otherwise.
“The continued misinformation, mischaracterization and unfortunately completely false reports by some major media outlets [are] very disheartening to our aid workers and their vital efforts to feed the hungry people of Gaza,” said John Acree, interim executive director of GHF.
“Every step we take is aimed at one outcome, which is getting food and essential supplies directly into the hands of those who need them most,” he added.
