When I heard about the Sar-El volunteer program with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), it piqued my interest because of my love for Israel and the Jewish people.

Sar-El is a non-profit service organization and under the direction of the Israeli Logistics Corps. The program is open to non-Israeli citizens who wish to participate in a service program akin to national service, without enlisting in the IDF. Over the years, volunteers have come from more than 30 countries worldwide.

 In 2016, it was my turn.

 Work on the IDF base was hard, dirty and fun all at the same time. Every morning our day began with raising the flag and singing Israel’s National Anthem “HaTikva,” followed by a news briefing from our madricha, or instructor.

 Not many people know that God has blessed Israel with many inventions! To name a few, the cherry tomato, the USB flash drive, and the Iron Dome anti-missile system.
