A new conflict has erupted atop Jerusalem’s Temple Mount.

 In February, thousands of Muslims broke into the Golden Gate on the compounds eastern side carrying Palestinian flags and shouting “Allahu Akbar! Israel had blocked off this area 16 years ago after Hamas tried to establish a new mosque there. Recent events are seen as a Hamas provocation to influence Israel’s general election. It’s interesting that this is taking place at what’s known in Hebrew as the “Gate of Mercy,” through which the Messiah will one day pass.

Sheikh Abdel Azim Salhab, chairman of the Islamic Trust that oversees the Temple Mount, praised the Palestinians for breaking into the Bab-A-Rachma (Gate of Mercy). Abdel Kader, a highranking Palestinian Authority representative, described the storming of the closed-off area as a great victory for all Muslims.
