“My Soul Dies With the Europeans!”

“Let my soul die with the Philistines” is a biblical expression, according to which a person who can no longer find a way out drags down himself and everyone around him.

People who have nothing left to lose are particularly dangerous. This is exactly what is said about Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to Western analysts, Russia’s partial mobilization reveals confusion and panic. The newly mobilized soldiers are sent to the front without training and with rusted weapons.

Meanwhile, Putin and his colleagues threaten before the cameras that nuclear weapons will be used in an emergency. And this is causing the West to panic, because Putin has banged his fist on the table “that this is not a bluff.”

Now the West is panicking about Russia’s nuclear threat, and who knows, maybe the West will now understand why Israel has been panicking about Iran’s nuclear buildup for years and taking action against it. The heavy losses on the Russian side are pushing Putin and the Kremlin into a dark corner. And as soon as he has nothing left to lose, it is quite possible that he will press the red button in his revenge, but only after sending a final message on social media: “My soul dies with the Europeans.” And then boom!

“My soul dies with the Philistines!” Samson cried out shortly before his self-inflicted death in captivity. [Editor’s Note: English translations have Samson simply stating, “I will die with the Philistines.” But the original Hebrew literally states, “My soul will die with the Philistines.”]

Then he bowed with all his strength, and the house fell upon the lords and upon all the people who were in it. So the dead whom he killed at his death were more than those whom he had killed during his life. (Judges 16:30)

By the way: Palestinian church leaders have in the past accused Israel of saying Samson was the first biblical suicide terrorist, and that Israel is therefore no better than Palestinian suicide terrorists. Of course, to make that mental leap, they must also acknowledge Israel’s biblical history in this land, which they try to avoid at all costs.

“Let my soul die with the Philistines” is a biblical expression, according to which a person who can no longer find a way out drags down himself and everyone around him. In Israel, this phrase from the Bible is often used. It finds many uses in our difficult times. Anyone who has nothing to lose in politics, at work or anywhere else can take one final revenge by bringing down all around him or her.

Samson was already blind at the time of his vengeance, and so he said to the boy that he should take him by the hand and lead him so that he could touch the pillars on which the house rests and lean on them. But the house was full of men and women.

If you listen to the voices in the media abroad or in Israel today, you will hear a certain undertone of fear that Putin might be willing to give up his soul if it means his enemies disappear from the face of the earth. The situation that gave rise to the biblical phrase, “Let my soul die with the Philistines,” is not an easy one, but it did happen, and it looks like such events can happen again.
