Netanyahu Touts Israel as Pioneer in “Alternative Meat”

“Unbelievable,” declares Netanyahu after being served a cut of cultured meat

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu this week visited Aleph Farms, an Israeli food-tech startup that specializes in cultured meat, which is meat grown from real cow cells in a laboratory.

After tasting a prepared steak from the lab, Netanyahu declared, “Unbelievable, tasty with compassion. There is no difference here.”

Noting the resources needed for and pollution produced by the traditional methods of raising and slaughtering sources of meat, the prime minister said he had directed his government to facilitate the growth of Israel’s food-tech sector.

“It will take time before this food is economically viable,” said Netanyahu, “but Israel will be a major power in alternative protein.”
