Netanyahu Under Fire as Report on 2014 Gaza War Set for Publication

Prime minister accused of mishandling certain threats during Gaza war that led to a number of soldiers’ deaths

The Israeli government, under tremendous public pressure, is set to publish the minutes of critical security cabinet meetings during the 2014 Gaza war.

And that does not bode well for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Netanyahu has already come under fire for allegedly mishandling the threat of Hamas terror tunnels extending into southern Israel.

And the upcoming report could fuel that fire.

According to those familiar with the cabinet meetings in question, Netanyahu and then-Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon permitted very little real discussion on operational procedure during the war. They also reportedly only addressed the seriousness of the terror tunnels in the final weeks of the conflict.

A number of Israeli soldiers were killed during the war by Hamas terrorists surprising them through the use of these tunnels.

Education Minister Naftali Bennett, who was part of the security cabinet in 2014, argued vigorously at the time that the IDF focus more effort on finding and destroying the tunnels.

But Netanyahu seems to have ordered that the army do so only after numerous tragic attacks.

The report is currently being reviewed by the Defense Department to make sure no information critical to national security is revealed.
