Why Israel must not remain silent when the Druze in Syria are persecuted – a moral litmus test, a strategic imperative, and a historical responsibility.

The moral mandate is clear: We must not abandon our allies. The Druze in As-Suwayda are not alone—not because they ask for help, but because their brothers in Israel share a bond of blood with us. Over the past week, the Syrian city of As-Suwayda was engulfed in flames. In Syria, the Druze are currently facing brutal persecution—from Islamist militias and their own regime alike. In the As-Suwayda Governate, there are abductions, public executions, and systematic oppression. Druze civilians are being murdered by Sunni extremists, women are kidnapped, and entire villages are terrorized. While Mohammed al-Joulani claims to be stabilizing the country, his jihadist regime often allows these attacks to happen or even collaborates with the perpetrators. The Druze are being stripped of their dignity—before the eyes of a world that looks the other way. This is not just another intra-Syrian conflict. For Israel, this moment is a moral, security, and strategic test. The Druze there are fighting not only for their honor but for their very survival.
