Palestinians reject UAE deal, but they also reject peace in general.

Palestinian leaders this week moaned and wailed over the first official visit of Israeli officials to the United Arab Emirates. The oil-rich Gulf state, insisted the Palestinians, had “betrayed” them and put peace further out of reach.

Of course, it’s the Palestinian leaders themselves who have made real peace, the kind of peace that Israel and other Arab states are now pursuing, all but impossible.

 

When they’re ready

Leading the joint American-Israeli delegation to the UAE capital of Abu Dhabi was US envoy Jared Kushner. Upon landing, he again stressed that normalization between Israel and the UAE was actually a good thing for the Palestinians.

However, to realize the benefits, Kushner insisted that the Palestinian leadership must not remain “stuck in the past.”

The Palestinians “have to come to the table,” the American explained. “Peace will be ready for them, an opportunity will be ready for them as soon as they are ready to embrace it.”

The remark seemed to reiterate the Trump Administration position that the Palestinian Authority can no longer dictate the rules...
